“Verity” is an astonishing novel which will let you dumbstruck. A book which makes impossible getting back to normality. Read it and be sure that it’s beyond one’s willing to forget Verity, her cruelty and cold blood story telling. Get ready for the worst and something more. A person who would lie, kill and destroy. I consider “Verity” the masterpiece of all the books Colleen Hoover has written so far.

The summary of the book
Lowen is a great but with no founds writer. She gets selected to finish Verity’s series. a famous writer she absolutely admired. The woman is paralyzed, so she is not able to finish her own work. Soon enough, Lowen will move in her house. She will study her work for getting more connected to her characters and writing style. Nevertheless, she’ll find a biography which will change her experience and her life forever. Who was this well-known and cherished by everyone Verity? What is hiding in the back of those cruel and complex characters? Maybe an even worse person.

The meeting
I think that it was fate the woman met Jeremy after that accident in the street. Which were the chances? The man who helped her to also be the one who’ll hire her? As far as I remember, Jeremy talked professionally about his wife, Verity. About her accident and the job he offers Lowen. It’s obvious that there was something odd going on between them.
“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒖𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒑𝒕. 𝑵𝒐 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒂𝒇𝒆.”

Creepy moments
The action pretty scared me. All those moments in which Lowen somehow saw Verity standing up. Even if she theoretically was paralyzed. Her night on the couch with Jeremy by her side certainly didn’t go as planned. She rose her head and saw the woman. Verity was at the top of the stairs, when she was supposed to be paralyzed.
“𝑰𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒇𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒈𝒐𝒅𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒏 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝑰’𝒎 𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒐𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰’𝒎 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌.”

I want to believe that the biography was far-fetched. That Verity didn’t actually drown her daughter and let the other one die from an allergy. It would be too hurtful otherwise, pure cruelty. She put up the perfect set up and scenario for covering her tracks and true intentions.
“𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒌 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒐𝒃𝒊𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉, 𝒂𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒕, 𝒂𝒏 𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓.”

Mother and children
Crew, Verity’s son, acts weird when it comes to Verity. He loves her, but he is also afraid of her. Crew saw and knew about his sisters’ murder, but what did he really know about everything? He was still young when everything happened. Even so, we can’t deny that everything sounds horrible and unbelievable.
She literally tried to provoke herself a miscarriage with a coat hanger. And ALL OF THIS for her need of attention from Jeremy. I’m still processing how a mother can be so selfish about something like love, Love would only grow stronger for you and your little versions.
Another question: woman, are you naturally insane? Do you think Does it seem purely logical to lock a girl with your husband? In the bedroom, as revenge. And you are asking yourself what you did wrong in your whole existence… yeah. You are the innocent one in here, my bad.
The ending
It was mind-blowing that the story ended that way. After finishing the novel, I asked myself multiple times what I half actually read. Nothing was making sense anymore. The author played games there. And I was there for the complete experience of “Verity”.
“𝑴𝒚 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒍, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑪𝒓𝒂𝒘𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒅’𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆.”
“𝑉𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑦”, 𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝐻𝑜𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟
The letter Lowen found makes her even more confused. Was that autobiography written only in the name of narration art? For reaching a level in which Verity would be able to sympathize with the evil protagonists of her novels. Or there was so much more to be discovered. The mystery and the lack of mercy goes deeper and deeper as the story goes on.
“𝑰 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅. 𝑶𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒘𝒊𝒔𝒆, 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒃𝒐𝒕𝒉.”

In the end, Lowen threw herself under the bus by getting pregnant with Jeremy. Or was Verity truly the villain?
I answer your questions about “Verity”
About the book
The protagonist gives the title of this incredible psychological thriller. “Verity” is about those moments when you look twice behind your back. It is about the unbreakableness of hidden secrets and dark actions. How the past affects the present and the future of a family.
The book points out Lowen, a talented but unemployed writer. She is hired to continue Verity’s famous and astonishing book series. The girl discovers well-hidden manuscripts. Ones which would terrify the most assertive hearts. Lowen starts to fear Verity. She is thought to be paralyzed, but is that enough to stop her?
Is it worth reading?
“Verity” is very worth reading. I absolutely absorbed the plot of this book in my veins. It’s vicious and dark. The characters are unforgettable and their actions unbelievable. This book is a mixture of horrific movements and unbreathable replies. All the things you do not expect to happen, will certainly do:). “Verity” is a book which will conquer your soul. No other thriller will be that good after reading “Verity “.
I recommend “Verity” for the +14 years old persons. I consider the plot too complex to be completely understood before that age.
I have finished “Verity” in not less or more than one day. It is that incredible. You just feel yourself sticked to the pages. Stuck somewhere between fear and consternation.
“Verity” is not quite a spicy book. There are only two spicier scenes. The action concentrates on the psychological part of the story. It is more creepy and frightening than spicy:)
Will there be a second volume?
I do not know anything about a possible second volume. Even so, I know about an updated version of the book. That one would also contain the truth in its ending. The letter or the biography?!:)
What did Verity do to her daughters?
I read so many of your questions about what Verity did to her daughters. She poisoned the first one with peanut butter and intentionally drowned the other. Nevertheless, let’s not forget about her trying to provoke herself a miscarriage.
Verity’s accident
Verity has always been faking her injury. We don’t quite know her reason. If we are to believe her, she protected herself from Jeremy. If the biography is right, she was just pure diabolic and that’s it;)
What is the truth?
It’s a very difficult question who the one telling the truth was. Either Verity was or wasn’t innocent. It depends on you if you choose to believe the biography or the letter. Personally, my guess is that the letter was one of Verity’s poor tryings to fool the others. It was her plan B.
Lowen truly gets pregnant with Jeremy in “Verity”. She is aware of the possibility that the letter was telling the truth. Even so, she believes in Jeremy and takes the risk.
The trigger warnings in Verity’s case
She tried to provoke herself a miscarriage. She likes to play the victim. She even imagined Jeremy consoling her on losing the twins. Verity murdered her twins with no hesitation. Even her boy is sometimes scared of her.
