“It’s Not Summer Without You” by Jenny Han

“It’s Not Summer Without You” is the volume which made me sob and burst into tears. The loss, the suffering, the love and the summer. Everything will change and the soul is not guilty for hoping. Hope is everything that will be left.

The pain creates bonds, but how durable will everything be after all? The friendships and the true loves will get ruined by the games of heart, but they’re addicting for sure.

Sneak peek

Beck’s death marked everyone’s lives. And that oneโ€ฆ was the last summer at Colin’s. Certainly everyone has known it, felt it.

Now, after Jeremiah’s love confession and the shared kiss with Conrad, the relationship between them and Belly is impossible to be the same again. Conrad will be there for her, ready to share together the biggest moments of their lives, exactly like she wished. But will this be enough?

The action

Belly will realize that 16 is nothing like 17. Conrad being physically with her is not enough, a beautiful packed lie won’t ever be the truth. The love won’t be honest and faultless. The book is very, very emotional. Technically I couldn’t put it down, and it kept me on the edge.

Beck’s death and how the characters go through this amazing loss is hurtful. The author really makes you feel part of the story, Beck has already become like a best friend kind of mother to you and the “kids” – your greatest friends. The emotional damage is real and I can’t lie: I was crying my eyes out in the middle of the beach. No, guys, I’m fineโ€ฆ Just reading “It’s Not Summer Without You” by Jenny Hanโ€ฆ

You’ll want to scream, to hate, to punch a wall, but please don’t:) The characters are very sweet in memorizing her, making her proud of them.

First thing first, I must tell you that the action is really juicy. The infinity symbol is in everything and everywhere. The Universe is looking for Conrad and Belly, so as far as they would run from the other, as close they would get to one another. We have a lot of romantic scenes and they are so heart filling because of the little gestures. Conrad’s stubbornness will have a sense in the end and the dynamic of the story line will change a little bit.

In this book, the chapters are told from different points of view, Belly’s and Jeremiah’s, so we get to have a deeper perspective into what happens in the scenes:)

Opinions

Conrad truly loves her, but doesn’t know this yet:) He is a little bit in loss of knowledge when it comes to her.

I know that most of the books for teenagers nowadays, are based on the relationship between the good girl and the bad guy. But I’ll explain to you why this series is amazing even if it’s also typical. It follows a pattern, but, for me, this is the first book series in which the bad boy is full of faults, annoying, but somehow makes me interested in his character development. He has a lot of potential and I was curious to find out what Jenny Han would do about it. She’s done a great job so far!

Belly is very young and maybe acts foolish, but don’t a lot of us do in some moments? She is one of the most relatable characters for some of the little teenage girls. I highlight: not for all of them!!!

Some of us had at one moment in our early teenage years a person or two who we cared about and in front of whom we acted foolish. They just brought up our playful and immature side. In the end, we all know those persons played an important role in our own “character development”๐Ÿค

The characters

I’m warning youโ€ฆ You will start to hate Jeremiah. Just maybe. He truly seems motivated to be with Belly just for showing off, to get rid of his “inferiority complex”. And Belly officially doesn’t have time for this! I’m #teamBelly after this book!

Conrad continues to be dark and annoying from this point of view. (โ€ผ๏ธ SPOILER โ€ผ๏ธ How can you break up at her prom?!). Jeremiah is attentive at details, but he loses the most important aspects. You can’t force love, you just let it be.

Belly is so relatable! I love her little soul and spirit. She is sensitive, determined and tries to be independent. She wants to be treated and spoken to as an adult and wants to be noticed for who she really is. We can all admit now that this is something all the teenagers expect from the others around them. Teenagers want to speak their mind; their opinions must matter. In her tries to get these things, she has awkward moments, maybe exaggerated actions, but she’s still a unique one, if you ask me.
